The Prokraft crank-top mill / grinder kit is a quality craft kit suitable for both turned and flatwork - available in 4½" and 8½" models

The premium ceramic grinder makes it suitable for salt, pepper, herbs & spices 

The Prokraft easy-fit system means you only need one central shaft size of 25mm (not an odd imperial size designed for the USA)

These kits are a great introduction to making mills for the beginner so the principles of making and assembly can be learned on only a small sized blank

I bought 2 x4" black top grinders , and thought that to differenciate between salt &pepper would use 2 chrome top ones for salt. Cutting back the thread is simple to match the 4" pair , and the result is excellent.

I decided to try these as an alternative to those sold by Craft Supplies as they are £2.75 cheaper!
The 4.5inch version produces a taller mill than Craft Supplies by about 1 inch but there is some room for variation. The end result is a very nice looking mill although the grind is not as smooth and the mechanism has no salt/pepper ID mark. They are however much easier to produce on lathe or drill. I will certainly buy again.
